Recently, I went to a different type of brunch than I am accustomed to, I went to a drag brunch. I am a huge supporter of the LGBT community, as so is most of my circle, so one of my really good friends that is getting married soon, decided to have her first bridal shower here. It didn’t disappoint!
Nellie’s Sports Bar is conveniently located at 900 U Street, N.W., Washington, D.C. 2001
On Saturday, there are 2 shows to choose from, the first one starts at 1030 hours and the second one at 1300 hours (1 pm). We had reservations for the 10:30 show. My suggestion is to arrive by 10 am and line-up, as people tend to arrive early. It is important to know that your party will not be seated if 90% of it has not arrived! Buying online tickets in advance is a must. There is parking available adjacent to Nellie’s for the price of $10 dollars (cash). However, if you get there early enough, you can find parking in one of the adjacent streets to Nellie’s, free-of-charge. I am always down for free-of-charge parking and didn’t mind walking 2 short blocks.
When your party is seated, the first drink, which is a mimosa, is on the house. Alcoholic beverages are available for purchase including mimosa pitchers (my favorite). The show opens up with the house-rules being reviewed with all attendees. The queens are hilarious in the way they explain them. I will not tell you what those rules are because well, why ruin the fun if you decide to go. After we all got settled in and had our mimosas (I had water due to marathon training), we were instructed to proceed to the buffet. The brunch food was very delicious. Simple buffet food was served: pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon, home fries, sausage, etc.
As we began to enjoy our food, the show began and well…. I cannot tell you anymore without spoiling the fun! This is a must watch and attend drag brunch. I highly recommend it for any occasion, from a birthday party to a graduation to a bridal shower. It is definitely worth your time on a Saturday morning. Oh yes, the price! The entrance to this one of a kind show is approximately $45 dollars. Also, please make sure that you have dollars on-hand to tip the performers, BUT, no worries if you forget, there are ATMs located inside the bar and the servers can provide you with change/dollar bills. My friends and I definitely had a blast this day.
Let me just tell you that I had a blast. I was singing to all the songs being performed and participated in one of the house rules a couple of times ( you will just have to wonder what that is). The show ended a little past 12:30, still allowing ample time for me to enjoy the rest of my day.
Let me know if you are ever in D.C. and want to meet up at Nellie’s for brunch!
So Much Fun!
