A couple of weeks ago, one of my best friends took me out to dinner to celebrate my birthday. We chose Kirwan’s Irish Pub for dinner. This restaurant is located on the waterfront at the Wharf, in Washington, D.C.
If you are visiting D.C. and you need a nice place to have dinner or a place to meet up with a date, this would be a fabulous choice. There is an option for outdoor seating, but you must make a reservation ahead of time, since it seems to be everyone’s choice of seating during the summer. We did not want to wait long to be seated (we didn’t have reservations), so we opted for a table inside. Our wait time on a Friday night was five minutes, thanks to all those with outdoor reservations.
The restaurant’s ambiance is great and the service was superb. I ordered a Maryland Jumbo Crab Cake, best decision ever, and Crispy Chips and Dip.
The crab cake is big enough for 2 people. I was very satisfied with my choice of food. The appetizer (the crab cake) was brought to our table within 10 minutes of placing the order and the entrée was brought to us as soon as our server noticed we were ready for it. My friend ordered the House-Ground Special-Blend 8oz Beef Burger and she said she truly enjoyed it.
For drinks, I opted with house made lemonade; very refreshing and tasty; I am picky about my lemonade, but this was definitely a great choice.
Half-way through dinner, a live band started playing upstairs. This added to the great ambiance already happening downstairs. I saw couples order bottles of wine as they talked and laughed. I enjoyed my time spent and eating at this place and know, that I will be back here before the summer is over. Oh! You are wondering about dessert, right? We did not order any, since I had peeped a gelato place a block away from the restaurant and immediately knew, this is what I wanted for dessert.
One thing to know, whether you live here in D.C. or the surrounding area, or simply visiting, try to use Uber or Lyft services to get here. Parking for 2 hours totaled $22 USD. Street parking is very hard to find near the Wharf, mostly because parking spaces available are for D.C. residents only and the few that are not are already occupied. Hope you enjoy your dining here just as much as I did!
